raised flanges and angular side flanges.

VESSEL, DOU
Probably Ming Dynasty
The globular vessel cast wish stylised taotie
in shallow relief and four archaistic phoenixes
in appliqué at the rim, all held on the
shoulders of four mythical beasts standing
on a flat disc supported by a double-baluster
stem with upright lappets and c-scrolls, all
rising from a domed foot decorated with
chilong in shallow relief, the base with a
flowerhead surrounded by further c-scrolls,
the domed cover with further taotie and
phoenix finial. 25.5cm (9 7/8in) high (2).

With tall slender flaring neck, set on a
spreading foot, decorated with arabesque
shaped panels of peonies and a bird
amongst prunus blossom on an incised floral
ground, the neck and body with an applied
sinuous chilong. 17cm (6.3/4in) high.

Comprising: a small, gilt bronze ‘peach and
bat’ washer; a small tool vase with trailing
lotus; and a sectional bronze of a monkey
clambering a ladder resting on a circular river
beside a standing boy. The tallest: 11.8cm (4
5/8in) high (3).
