A GOLD-INLAID BRONZE BELT HOOK
Warring States period/Western Han dynasty
The tapered, elegantly curving shaft faceted to the top side, inlaid
in gold with a geometric pattern arranged in a symmetrical fashion,
terminating with a snake-head hook, the underside cast with a raised
button with inlaid scrolls.

AN ARCHAIC BRONZE BOX AND COVER, LIAN
Han dynasty
The cylindrical body supported on three cabriole feet and surmounted
by a slightly domed cover, the sides of the vessel plain with only a
raised band at the rim and the edge of the base, the latter incised with
a later-added inscription dated to the Yongtai period of Tang Daizong’s
reign, 1st year, 6th month (corresponding to 763).

A PARCEL-GILT-BRONZE ‘DRAGON’ STIRRUP
Ming dynasty
The circular plate chased with an interlocking ‘coin and hook’ design
on the top surface, the tall arched loop surmounted by a pair of fierce
dragon heads facing in opposite directions, each beast with the mouth
open bearing the fangs and tongue, alert almond-shaped eyes, and
a flowing mane, an aperture between the heads to accommodate a
strap, the brilliant gilding mostly intact.
