This type of chest in the shape of a book was usually used as a
container for stationery in the Qing court, although the material may
vary. Compare with a case of brush pens in the form of a book,
Kangxi, in the Palace Museum, illustrated in the Classics of Forbidden
City: Scholar’s Paraphernalia, Beijing, 2009, pl.5. Compare also with
another related ivory-inlaid zitan box in the shape of scrolls and album,
Qianlong, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, which is illustrated in the Tung Chiao, 'Qingyu An' (A Green
Classics of Forbidden City: The Imperial Packing art of Qing Dynasty, Jade Table), 2009
Beijing, 2009, pp.58-59. 董橋,《青玉案》,2009年
