A PAINTED POTTERY MODEL OF A
CAPARISONED HORSE
Northern Wei Dynasty (386-535 AD)
Finely modelled striding on a trapezoidal base,
the head adorned with a tasselled cloth and a
bridle, from which hang floral ornaments, the
saddle covered with a long cloth draped at the
ends above the flared mud guards.

A PAINTED POTTERY FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN
Wei Dynasty (386-557 AD)
Modelled as a standing foreigner wearing full
armour and leather helmet framing the face
with prominent features set in a scowl, clad in
a winter cape lined with fur, traces of dark red,
olive-brown, grey, white and black pigments.
32cm (12 5/8in) high.
