A GILT-METAL AND HARDSTONE-EMBELLISHED COSMETIC
BOX AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The side of the box is decorated with a band of scrolling foliage. The cover is embellished
with semi-precious stones that include lapis lazuli and tourmaline, rendered in the form
of five bats surrounding two large peaches, all reserved against a ground of ruyi-shaped
clouds. The interior of the cover is set with a mirror.
