A ROCK CRYSTAL INSIDE PAINTED ‘REVOLUNTIONARY
OPERA’ SNUFF BOTTLE
Of rounded square form rising to a short tubular neck with a broad,
slightly concave lip, one side of the interior painted with an image
of Xiao Changbao, and inscribed Zhi qu Weihushan renwu zhi yi
Changbao (Changbao, one of the characters from Taking Tiger
Mountain by Strategy); the other side inscribed with the lyrics of
Changbao’s aria with one painted seal reading Xiao Changbao changci
(Xiao Changbao’s lyrics).

A HARDSTONE EMBELLISHED INSIDE-PAINTED ROCK
CRYSTAL SNUFF BOTTLE
Xue Shaofu
Of flattened globular form, one side overlaid in various hardstones with
the design of five bats surrounding a shou medallion, the interior of the
other side painted with the scene of Wang Xiang using his body heat
to melt the the ice on a frozen pond to obtain carp for his stepmother,
inscribed with a verse describing the scene, dated jiachen, signed Xue
Shaofu.
