A fascinating jade carving with two possible readings of the overall
design. While it seems most likely that the vessel is a stylized knotted
tree stump, the large knots to the trunk may also depict large swirling
eddies in a fast-flowing stream. Similarly, a very small deeply carved
'knot' amidst the blossom may also represent a crescent moon (a
           classic Chinese subject).
