A TAIHU SCHOLAR’S ROCK

QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)

The powerfully shaped rock of a contorted outline, is in the form of a
mountain, rising vertically from a narrow base to a cresting overhang
to one side. It is pierced with several circular perforations of varying
sizes resembling cave dwellings. The wrinkled surface of the stone is
of a pale grey tone, all accentuated further by its crevices and sharp
ridges.
