AN IVORY TABLE SCREEN AND TWO IVORY TABLETS
The table screen inscribed:
18th/19th century The incense and the candle burned out
The screen wood mounted, carved in shallow relief to the obverse with and others have begun to quiet down;
a delicate scene of ladies carrying lanterns in a moon-bathed, luxurious the eternal moonlight is all over the curtains
garden, the reverse with a poem; the first tablet carved in shallow relief By Shui Xue
with a narrative scene, probably the Outlaws of the Marshes, with two
riders involved in a chase on a mountainous path by a tumultuous sea,
the reverse incised with two chilong, wood stand; the third tablet, of a
rich, toffee tone, incised with the rules of the table game ‘Zhuang Yuan
Chou’ beneath the scene of an official audience, the reverse plain,
wood stand.
The screen: 17cm (6 3/4in) x 8.6cm (3 3/8in) excluding stand. (3).
