Finely woven in satin stitch with butterflies
amongst scattered sprays of peonies, lotus,
prunus blossom, magnolia, chrysanthemums,
narcissus, wisteria, orchids and convolvulus,
the sleeve interiors similarly woven on ivory
silk grounds, all within black ground silk
borders woven in ‘three-blues’, sanlan, silk
threads.

SUMMER ROBE, CHANGYI
Late Qing Dynasty
Woven with butterflies amongst leafy flowering
and blossoming stems, within similarly woven
black gauze shaped borders, collar and cuffs;
a lady’s pink silk robe, applied with cream and
apple green silk borders, woven with birds
and butterflies, flower sprays and auspicious
emblems; and a pale pink silk pleated skirt
with panels of birds amongst flowering and
blossoming branches.
