AN INLAID IRON KODANSU
Attributed to the Komai Company of Kyoto,
Meiji Period
Set on bracket feet, the exterior decorated
in gilt to the front and back with scenes
of temple precincts, the sides with birds
amongst flowering plants, the upper surface
with a peacock amongst trailing wisteria, the
interior with three drawers, gilt Mount Fuji
mark to the base.

The cover inlaid in enamel with a butterfly
and beetle, the body heightened in areas of
gilt to simulate the skin of the fruit, gilt seal
mark to the base.

METAL KOZUKA
Late Edo/early Meiji Period
Mounted as twelve pairs of knives and
forks, comprising: a set of six kozuka with
insects and floral sprays; a set of four with
crustacean; a set of four with boys at play;
a set of ten with courtiers in a boat upon a
lake; the silver fittings stamped with Sheffield
hallmarks for 1870, and with a Galleon and
the Latin phrase ‘Mina Lucra Pericula’. The
kozuka each: 9.5cm (3 3/4in) long (24).
