CIRCULAR BOXES AND COVERS
Qianlong
The first lid carved in low relief with an
attendant opening a villa for a waiting scholar
official, with a riverscape in the background,
the ground finely carved with various diaper
patterns, the sides and box with a wide key-
fret border; the second lid similarly carved
but with two sages conversing in a bamboo
forest.

PANELS
Kangxi
The first rectangular panel finely inlaid with a
scholar being presented with an official’s hat,
in a terraced garden flanked with his wife and
child, the reverse with a four-line inscription
and a bronze vase with flowers; the second
with a group of scholar sages observing
distant mountains, the reverse with a four-line
inscription. Each: 23.5cm (9 1/4in) high (2).
