A GUYUE XUAN ENAMELED OPAQUE PROVENANCE
TURQUOISE-GREEN GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE Robert Hall, London, 1995.

The fattened bottle is of blue-green color and decorated with
two long-tailed birds perched on fowering branches. An iron-red The completion of the Guyue Xuan, in 1767, for the Qianlong
Guyue Xuan (Ancient Moon Pavilion) mark is written on the base. Emperor, prompted him to order a series of enamel-on-glass
wares, which apparently involved not only the established
2¡ in. (6 cm.) high, glass stopper enamelers at the Palace workshops, but also a new group of
enamelers co-opted by the Court. The entire group is discussed

A similar bottle from a private North American collection was sold
at Christie’s New York, 22-23 March 2012, lot 1580.

The compressed bottle with fat narrow sides is accented with
dark pink splashes sandwiched between two layers of translucent,
milky white glass.
