A FAMILLE-ROSE ‘DEER’ VASE
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
the slightly compressed spherical body rising to
a gently waisted neck, vibrantly enameled with a
continuous scene of deer variously grazing, resting
and gazing up towards a pair of mischievous
monkeys perched high up among the expansive
branches of a towering pine tree, observing a spider
spinning a delicate web, all within a verdant setting
of varying foliage and rockwork, the base with an
apocryphal Qianlong mark
Height 20½ in., 52.1 cm
PROVENANCE
Collection of Dr. Frederick Innes (1917-2005), Boston.
Acquired in Boston 1940s-60s, and thence by
descent.

the robustly potted globular body rising to a
cylindrical neck, painted with a peach tree with
curving trunk and branches laden with ripe fruit,
ourishing leaves, and white, blue, and rose colored
blossoms and buds, the base with an apocryphal
Qianlong seal mark

QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
the globular body raised on a low foot and rising to
a cylindrical neck and slightly aring mouth, painted
in bright enamels with Fu, Lu, Shou, Kui Xing, and
the He He twins all amidst scrolled ruyi clouds and a
heavenly hall, above the eight Daoist immortals riding
animals, marine life above cresting waves, joined by
a maiden and elderly man on a raft, possibly Zhang
Zhihe, the Tang dynasty Daoist scholar
