194 SOTHEBY’S QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
the steep sides rising from a tall circular foot, the
exterior lacquered and inlaid with mother-of-pearl
with scenes of geese in a vast marsh with rocks
and various plants interspersed with calm waters
under a sky of scrolled clouds, the porcelain
body of the interior painted in bright enamels
with butter ies, insects, and various blossoms
including chrysanthemum, peony, rose, prunus,
lily, and other varieties on a white ground below a
rim border of cobalt blue with gilt archaistic birds
reserved on rosette-diaper

quadrilobed piercings, painted with the bajixiang
and bold lotuses between a ruyi band encircling
the gilded mouth rim and a band of colorful
lappets around the foot, the interior and base
enameled in turquoise, with a Daoguang seal
mark

of baluster form with a ared mouth, the ovoid
body with applied molded foliage, peaches,
pomegranates and nger citron against a densely
decorated gilt and polychrome enamel ground
with scalloped reserves of gural scenes, the
neck with similar scenes and anked by applied
gilt-painted dragons
