I think there is nothing more exciting and fulfilling than paddling on the large open waters of the Mississippi River
heading downstream because so much activity happens on the water. Whether in the cities passing under the numerous
bridges or in-between metropolitan areas with ocean bound vessels, tows, water craft, animal life or simply the river
itself on a sunny day or at least bright enough to see, you can feel the “life of the river” in every stroke of the paddle and
every vista seen.
Returning to the river not quite ready for prime time I could feel the familiar ache to the paddle but the all consuming
requirements of observation of river traffic not only added to a keen sense of awareness but an awe and wonder that just
can’t be denied that here I was once again ON THE RIVER and traveling faster than I thought I was as distant landmarks
quickly came up and when paddling near shore the speed of the current more obvious.
This was exciting, this was the adventure, this was the beginning again getting back on the river to what ever waited
downstream.
