It was well afternoon by the time I got out of the Greyhound Bus Station and dropped off by cab just north of the Baton
Rouge Levee signage where a railroad crossing led to a slight trail down the levee. Hauling cargo down to the water line
was easy though I could see bushes would be growing up around the trail later in spring and summer. Several fishing
people were leaving as I started assembling the kayak and sweat began to pour over me as some sunlight was giving a
slightly warmer day, but rain was predicted by night. I knew I was under deadline, and seeing the clouds in the south
         coming north was obvious enough.
Also with events of the cabbie trying to stiff me, then the confrontation with ‘the hustler’ I just wanted to leave quickly
lest someone decide to come back with friends. The crew working on the crossing guard had helped to keep the
argument to a minimum but I didn’t know “hustler’ that well and human nature I suspected would win out and he would
         move on to another ‘mark’.
