EFFICACY/TOLERABILITY
EFFICACY AND TOLERABILITY OF PRESERVATIVE-FREE
EYE DROPS CONTAINING A FIXED COMBINATION OF
DORZOLAMIDE AND TIMOLOL IN GLAUCOMA PATIENTS
Renieri G, et al. J Ocul Pharmacol Ther. 2010 Dec;26(6):597-603.
ABSTRACT
PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of PF eye drops (dorzolamide/timolol) in routine
management of P-sensitive glaucoma patients.
METHODS: Prospective, open, non-comparative, multicenter, routine practice, non-interventional
study.
2298 glaucoma patients requiring intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction and/or suffering from intole-
rance to benzalkonium chloride or active agents of previously used eye drops.
89.1% of patients were previously treated : 25.1% of them received timolol, 17.5% preserved dorzola-
mide/timolol FC, 12.5% latanoprost, 11.1% dorzolamide alone. Other medications were prescribed in
less than 10% of the patients each.
Patients were switched to preservative-free dorzolamide/timolol eye drops for 12 weeks.
STUDY CRITERIA: Improvement of local tolerability
RESULTS: 5.4% of patients declared ocular side effects.
The most frequently reported ocular adverse drug reactions were burning eyes (2.4%) and hyperemia
(0.9%).
Local tolerability improved in 84.6% of patients compared to their previous glaucoma therapy.
