In this websites, Lauren Smith says that she wrote itself with suggestions from contributors, a list of
activities, some obvious and not so obvious, that are often the responsibility of public librarians and
library staff. She said that, these are all things that we know people working in public libraries are
expected to do, whether or not we think they should be. There are several important points that I can
point out from this website titled ―What Do Public Library Workers Do?‖ which is: -
o Interacting with library users – (Providing a safe, friendly space that welcomes everyone)
o Helping people find information – (Teaching people how to search effectively)
o Helping people with research – (Personal training sessions on resources)
o Supporting people to use technology – (Teaching people to use the internet)
o Organizing and running events and activities – (Children‘s activities, Book festivals etc.)
o Working with schools & organizations – (Working with teachers to improve reading skills)
o Managing the library – (Maintaining and building technical solutions for users‘ needs;)
o Managing the library‘s resources – (Ordering database and journal subscriptions)
o Handling archives and special collections – (Storing and conserving media)
o Taking care of other council services provided through libraries – (Dealing with people
paying council tax and parking fines)
