DEVELOPING THE CENTRE

The design development programme and documentation relating to planning and other
matters for Newcastle have been extremely thorough and have taken into account both
mistakes made and improvements to the design of the BigShots Lubbock Centre in the
USA. Applying best practice, the design also includes STR’s recommendations on the
kitchen and hospitality lay-outs, most efficient buildability and subsequent operation,
reduced life cycle cost and maximising the attraction to a broad range of future visitors
to the Centre.

The planning process has taken longer than originally planned due to the Planning
Committee refusing consent at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown in March 2020.
As a result the project has been redesigned for our resubmission and the Centre
relocated on the golf course to run parallel with the Coast Road.

The golf course has now been comprehensively remodelled for the resubmission which
was the chosen route in favour of an appeal against the first decision. As a result of
substantial efforts on the ecology front, it was possible to achieve a positive impact for
the project on the golf course and together with other changes, the resubmission was
approved unanimously by the Planning Committee on 16th March 2021.

Robertson Construction North East have been appointed as principal contractor. Garry
Hope, Regional Managing Director, has responded to the appointment, “We thank you for
