Situation I
1. Doctor : I think that’s about it for now. Is there anything else we haven’t
covered or anything that you’d like to tell me before I examine
you?
2. Patient : No.

3. Doctor : Next, I’m going to have a look at you, and after that, we can sit
down and talk about your problems and what tests you might
need. I’m going to step out of the room for a moment now.
Please just put on this gown. Put it on with the opening towards
the back. And then sit on the end of the table up here. OK?

Situation II
(Doctor exits, re-enters)

1. Doctor OK. I need to check your head, eyes, ears, nose and throat first. Please
sit up. Yes, your head is fine. Now, I’ll look into your ears with this
light. First the right one. And then the left one. They’re OK. Now, I’m
going to look at your eyes. I’ll pull down here while you look up.
Please look up. It’s good. Now, I want to look into your eyes with this
instrument. You need you to keep your eyes open for a minute and
look straight ahead while I examine them. Good. Your eyes are all
right. Now, I’m going to examine your nose. Please lean back a little.
Your nose is OK. Now, I’m going to have a look in your throat. It’s
OK. Next I’ll feel around your neck to see if there is any enlargement
of the thyroid gland. OK, there’s no problem here.
