grew faster than the global average, increasing by 18.3% to $13mn. EU bought 42% of Ukraine’s exports through August. Separately, two-way trade between the US and Ukraine grew by 16% through August, reaching almost $2.6bn, Stepan Kubiv, the minister, wrote on Facebook.
Ukraine and China plan to double trade turnover to $10bn a year. The opportunities for cooperation in agriculture, construction and energy sectors have been discussed by Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman with Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine Du Wei. "Ukraine and China plan to double mutual goods flow to $10bn and are mulling new opportunities or cooperation in agriculture, construction, first of all infrastructure facilities, energy and other areas," the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported after a meeting of the prime minister with the ambassador on Tuesday. For comparison the trade turnover between Russia and China has been growing extremely fast and is on course to hit $100bn this year.
Minsk expects increase of Belarusian-Ukrainian turnover to $5bn in 2018.
Belarus and Ukraine may increase mutual commodity turnover to $5bn in 2018, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko said. "Positive dynamics of trade and economic relations between our countries was observed in the past few years. We have managed to stop the fall that was in 2013 and resume growth," Lyashenko said at a plenary session of the first forum of Belarusian and Ukrainian regions in Gomel on Friday. The amount of bilateral trade reached $4.6bn in 2017 and went up 20% against 2016, he said.
Ukraine and Belarus could "easily" double trade turnover between the two countries to $10bn , Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said during a forum in Gomel on October 26. According to Poroshenko, Belarus is a strategic trade partner for Ukraine, namely the fifth largest trade partners in the world.
Ukraine’s sunflower oil production and exports are to grow by 12% this year , forecasts Oil World, a German vegetable oil news site. During the 2018/2019 marketing year, Ukraine is to produce 6.4mn tons of sunflower oil, exporting 92% of the total. The world’s sunflower power, Ukraine produces almost twice as much as the entire EU.
Through September, Ukraine’s exports of fruits, nuts and berries are up 40% y/y , to $157mn. Walnuts are the sales champions -- up 50%, to 20,000 tons. Walnuts and frozen fruits and berries account for 83% of exports by value, according to Ukrsadprom, the growers association. Sales of apples more than tripled by volume, to 29,000 tons. But the average export price for apples is $340 a ton. By contrast, the average export price of frozen berries is $1,700 a ton. For peeled walnuts, it is $3,670 a ton. Major expansions of walnut groves are underway. Two thirds of fruit, berry and nut exports go to the EU. New markets are being developed in Spain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Ukrainians are importing more cars and tractors, but paying less for them. Through August, the number of imported cars was up by 35% y/y, to 127,611. But, reflecting a surge in imported used cars, the average unit cost was down 23%, to $10,626. Most car imports come from the EU. Similarly, tractor imports are up 17% y/y, to 70,211, the State Statistics Service reports. The average dollar cost is down 23%. Of tractor imports, 78% come from China.
