Over the next three years, 24,000 km of roads and 1,400 bridges will be rebuilt, Infrastructure Minister Alexander Kubrakov told a “Roads of the Future” conference held Tuesday in Kyiv by the National Association of Road Workers of Ukraine, an association of 71 highway construction companies. “100,000 new road workers, bridge builders, engineers are evidence that working in Ukraine is finally profitable and prestigious,” he said. “Currently, there are about 20 powerful companies in Ukraine...I am sure that by 2024, domestic companies will also come out. to international infrastructure markets.”
Ministry of Finance to invest ₴124.1 bln ($4.72 bln) in the development of road networks in 2022. The announcement was subject to receiving syndicated finance from the EBRD to reconstruct the Kyiv Odesa highway (M-05); construction of the northern bypass of Lviv and Ternopil; reconstruction of a section the Poltava - Valky highway in the Kharkiv region(M-03); and the overhaul of the M-01 highway on the section Kyiv - Kipti (Chernihiv region).
Next year, construction will start on Ukraine’s first public-private partnership highway project – a 360 km ‘autobahn’ from Krakovets on the Polish border to Lviv and on to Rivne, Prime Minister Shmyhal predicted yesterday at the Kyiv International Forum. “For 30 years, not a single autobahn has been built in the largest country in Europe,” he told the gathering of investors. “We have begun this work. Next year, I am convinced, we will build the first autobahn from Krakovets to Lvov and Rivne.” With the legal framework in place, he added: “We already have five more autobahn construction projects in which investors are interested.”
As part of a European Investment Bank plan to fund four highway bypasses around major cities in Western Ukraine, the Infrastructure Ministry announces an international tender for a four-lane, eight-kilometer bypass around Ternopil. The bypass will connect to international highways -- the M-19, a north-south highway that runs from Brest to Bucharest; and the M-30 which is being expanded to run from Lviv to Luhansk. EIB funding is to go to building bypasses around Lviv and Rivne.
