9.1.5 Retail sector news
The Association of Beer Producers, which includes the three largest producers in the domestic market (AB InBev Efes, Baltika and Heineken) holding close to a 70% combined market share, expects the beer market in Russia to experience minor y/y growth in 2020. The beer production data released by the Russian Statistics Service showed 3.4% y/y growth for 10m20 to 674mn decalitres and a 2.8% y/y decline in October. In 9mo20, Russia accounted for more than 60% of Anadolu Efes’ beer volumes, with the company outperforming the market on a low double-digit rise. This allowed it to gain an additional 2.2pp of market share y/y, bringing it close to 30% as of 9mo20. In the company's domestic market (Turkey), volumes remained muted, losing 4% y/y in 9mo20, as consumer sentiment was pressured, some ontrade restrictions remained and tourism was down. Anadolu has lost 28% YTD vs. the 10% growth in the BIST100 index, while the accelerating stock supply completely overshadowed the impressive operating story in Russia.
Infoline has released its online food retail data for the top ten players in 9mo20. X5 Retail Group remained the leader, with sales of RUB12.7bn, followed by Utkonos and Sbermarket (top lines of RUB11.6bn and 11.5bn, respectively). The main share of revenues still comes from stock-up shopping (Perekrestok.ru) at 67%, while the remainder comes from express delivery
