4.4.2 Nominal wages dynamics
Real wages in Ukraine grew 13.0% y/y in June, decelerating from 14.1% y/y growth in May , the State Statistics Service reported on July 27. The average monthly nominal wage increased to UAH9,141 a month ($349) from UAH8,725 in May, which is 4.8% m/m growth in real terms.
The leading regions for average monthly wages remained the city of Kyiv (UAH13,533), the Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk region (UAH9,774) and the Kyiv region (UAH9,481).
The largest nominal average wage growth was in public services (39% y/y), transportation (29%) and services (28%). Within the industrial sector, the highest nominal wages were in pharmaceuticals (UAH17,158), mining (UAH12,398), and in coke and oil production (UAH11,499).
Cooling inflation and a continuing economic upsurge are fueling the relatively high growth rate of real wages. Analysts expect real wages to increase 9-10% y/y in 2018.
Ukraine’s wage arrears increased by 6.3% in June 2018 , and as of July 1, 2018 amounted to UAH2.723bn ($102mn), the State Statistics Service said, reports Interfax .
Wage arrears at economically active enterprises increased by 11% in June 2018 and on July 1 this year amounted to UAH1.566bn, according to the official figures.
Wage arrears in June 2018 increased in Volyn (50.2%), Zakarpattia (21.1%), Donetsk (18.3%), Zaporizhia (16.3%), Sumy (14.3%), Ternopil (10.8%), Lviv (8.4%), Chernivtsi (7.6%), Kherson (7.1%) regions and Kyiv city (4.1%).
At the same time, the decline of wage arrears was recorded in Vinnystia (20.7%), Rivne (8.5%), Mykolaiv (5%), Ivano-Frankivsk (4.5%), and Kirovohrad
