Saliva test – A collection of the fluids from the patient’s oral cavity to help monitor hormone, drug, and
alcohol levels
Sclerotic – Hardened, or veins that are hardened from repeated blood draws
Semen - The thick, whitish secretion of the male reproductive organs discharged from the urethra during
ejaculation
Serum – Straw-colored liquid portion of the blood visible after the specimen has been allowed to clot and
after centrifugation
Stat – Immediately, often within 45 minutes to 1 hour of receipt in the laboratory
Stool – Also called feces; waste or excrement from the digestive tract that is formed in the intestine and
expelled through the rectum
Thrombotic – Containing blood clots
