“I was at a meeting with the New York Times, and off the cuff they asked if I wanted to shoot Ed that Saturday. In
the middle of photographing Ed, Taylor Swift blasély floated onto set with a giant entourage. They had a nice hello, and then we went back to shooting. After the por- trait, Ed’s manager came over to me and asked if I wanted to come onstage during the show to shoot Ed live. I’ve photo- graphed a lot of musicians and concerts, and it’s rare to get the opportunity to be onstage mid-show, especially if you’re not embedded on tour with the artist. I got about 90 seconds onstage and walked away with the shot that the Times ran full page. Ed’s live show was reminiscent of a Beatles concert; the fans were rabid.”
