 Hitler had assumed war strategy from the very beginning. He

directed the army to prepare for an immediate offensive in the

West when the successful campaign against Poland failed to

yield the desired peace agreement with Britain. Bad weather

had some of his reluctant generals postpone the offensive to the

west. This in turn led to two significant planning changes.
