2. Battle of Midway - June 1942



 Midway was a devastating loss the Imperial Japanese Navy has

never completely recovered from. Most of the credit goes to the

code breakers who have uncovered the Japanese plot to

ambush U.S. forces in order to prepare a counter-ambush for

the Allies. The Japanese attempt to break U.S. forces failed too.

The US then conducted a massive air attack against the

Japanese carriers. The TBF Avenger torpedo bombers were

intercepted by Japanese Zeroes and decimated, but the SBD

Dauntless dive bombers attacking afterwards got through.
