The Journey
Continues
KNOTTING AND ROPE WORK is a much bigger subject than can
be covered in one book, and there are many ways to continue and
expand your learning. Whether you are pursuing knot tying as a
hobby or taking up some activity that makes specialized use of
knotting, there is always more to learn. This chapter is a guide to
how you can expand your knowledge of knotting.
Learn More in a Particular Area
This book is, for the most part, a general introduction to knots and
is not specific to any one activity that requires the use of knots. It
is meant to give you the kind of knowledge needed to get the most
out of more specialized books when you try to understand them.
So, if you take up sailing, fishing, or any other activity, you will be
in good shape to learn the knotting that is specific to that activity.
Some activities involve advanced training, where you can learn
knots and rope rigging specific to that activity. It may be important
to learn the conventions of how rope is used specifically in that
pursuit. When teamwork is involved, it may be necessary for more
than one person to use rope in the same manner to reduce any
confusion that might occur. So even if you know a better way to
tie something, it might be safer for you to use rope in a manner
expected by the others that may have to work with you.
