THE EVER YTHING KNOTS BOOK
Each of the chapters on knots in this book were designed to
introduce you to the concepts as well as to the more common
knots and structures used for doing that type of knotting. As such,
none of the chapters represents the last word on what can be done
with these topics. Further research in books or on the Internet will
lead you to as many examples as you could ever want.
Stopper Knots
If you are curious about stopper knots, you will find that there
are hundreds for you to learn. Just the single-strand knots alone
can be tied in limitless ways, and multistrand stopper knots are infi-
nite in the number of decorative variations.
Bends
The same is true for bends—there are whole categories of spe-
cialized bends. For example, seizing bends are a category of bends
that work best for joining two ropes of very different sizes.
Loops
There’s variety in the loop knots as well. The Bowline Loop
has become the base for many variations, a number of which were
developed to be more secure in synthetic cordage. There is an
astounding number of knotting structures that work for loops. You
can learn to tie more single loops, nooses, or explore the infinite
diversity of multiple loops.
Hitches
Hitches make up the biggest section in many knotting publica-
tions. You may want to learn more quick-release hitches, friction
hitches, or vibration-proof hitches. Whatever your preference, alter-
natives abound.
Bindings and Lashings
Any discourse on bindings and lashings can only scratch the sur-
face of the subject, and the chapters in this book are no exception.
