           Reading: Matthew 27:27-31
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the
governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole
                                 28
cohort around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet
                           29
robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown,
they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and
knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the
                     30
Jews!” They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him
                           31
on the head. After mocking him, they stripped him of the
robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away
              to crucify him.

           Reflection:
Jesus’ journey to the cross begins with acts that dehumanized and
disrespected him. Mocked him with a robe and crown of thorns.
Spat on him, struck him and bowed before him as a king of a
defeated backward nation of peoples. “Hail, King of the Jews”
How do you see our world’s view of our faith, its morals, beliefs
and teachings? Can we accept the disrespect and dehumanizing of
our post-Christian society and laws? Or will we become part of
the social movement away from God?

           Prayer:
When you were already hurting, disrespected and mocked
You embraced the cross. We remember and accept the call of a
           familiar hymn,
“Take up thy cross, the Savior said,
If thou woudst my disciple be.”

           Thank you Jesus
           Amen

           Activity:
Take a walk along a neighborhood street, stop. Consider in these
short steps the journey Jesus took on our behalf. As he prayed for
his faithful followers, pray for your neighbors and those who walk
the path of faith with you.
