Dreams usually have a little more vibrancy than just a desire, and they
may be more at the forefront of our mind. But most often there is no
action behind a dream. It is just a more substantial desire. They can be
like an expectation we want, but not motivating us to go after them.
Visions are usually a step up from both desires and dreams. They are a
clear picture of goal in life we want to reach, but it takes making them a
goal, and taking action on them to bring them into reality. They are not
defined as clear steps to attain what we want as important.
Objectives are the defined actions we must take to attain our goal,
after we’ve set our goal. They come after a goal is set, and they are
steps on the road to get us to where we want to be.
Too many people don’t get to the point of truly setting goals, putting
them down in writing as we will discuss. Their motivation might be said
to be their desire, dream or vision, but this is often not enough to truly
set a goal that is attainable. There must be an ambition within us to
attain a certain thing – with objectives to go along with it – for a goal to

toward our goal. Having a goal is a multi-step process. It is not just
wishful thinking like a desire, dream or vision.
In other words, we must be able to ‘EVALUATE’ if we are on the road
toward achieving our goal, or if we are not moving forward. Without
some type of measuring device, we really don’t even know if we are on
the right road or not.
This is not saying that desires, dreams and visions are not important.
They are what form our goals. They are the ‘bigger picture’ of what we
want our lives to be. They provide fuel for creating goals. It’s just that
