P. 8
things can’t stop with desires, dreams and visions. And goals require
more than just having objectives. Objectives can even move us toward
a goal, but they don’t define the goal as we will see.
Goals Must be Realistic and Attainable
Let’s say you go to a concert and observe a talented pianist whom you
admire and would like to become like. But let’s also say you’ve never
touched a piano in your life.
Timing in life is also important. If you’re 16 years old when you went to
the concert, and want to become a concert pianist, this particular goal
may not out-of-sight. It would just take a tremendous amount of work
and dedication. However, if you’re 61 years old and have never touched
a piano, this desire or dream or vision may not be attainable. This is not
saying it is impossible, but it may have a lot more problems.
So, in considering a goal, it is necessary to sit down and ‘count the cost’
that will be necessary to attain the goal, and even determine if it is
realistic and attainable for you at all. And it may require some outside
counsel from someone who knows what the cost will be.
We do not have to be totally on our own in considering a goal.
‘The Meaning of Life’ Enters Into the Equation
Some people just have an unfounded view that this life only spills over
into the next, eternal life, and so this life has no real meaning. I surely
believe in eternal life, and what I believe is founded on the Bible. But in
my mind, this life also has deep meaning for us.
