They say something like: “Life has no meaning. Human existence has no
real meaning or purpose because human existence occurred out of a
random chance in nature, and anything that exists by chance has no
intended purpose. But as humans we try to associate a meaning or
purpose so we can justify our existence.
The fact is there is not just one definition of meaning and purpose.
PURPOSE is generally said t be the reason for which we do things, and
why we exist. It is our innermost intention and objective. We set up
something we determine to be important to us, and it becomes an
object for us to attain.
MEANING tries to answer, “What is the meaning to life.” The problem is
that the answers are even more esoteric. The answers to the question,
“What is meaning in life” don’t answer the question. They mostly talk
about what is implied vs. what is actually said.
Thinking About the Meaning of Life
It means being fulfilled. When we do something that has meaning to
us, then we are fulfilled by this. It means feeling good about ourselves
and about life in general. Sometimes getting a college degree can have
a sense of meaning. But often, after graduating, students report having
feelings of disillusionment and depression. It didn’t fulfill them.
Something is missing in life until we find meaning, but our motivation
must be to discover what this meaning and purpose is to us.
We will discuss a spirit mindset in Goals aspect #5: SPIRIT. When we
truly prune a spiritual heart, we discover that God is our fulfillment
more than something we can define on earth. The Apostle Paul says it is
about knowing, ‘WHOM I believe,’ – not so much ‘WHAT I believe. In
the SPIRIT of life, fulfillment is often simply found in knowing God.
