Setting Goals is Prompted by Meaning and Purpose

It is true that, until we’ve wrestled with the meaning and purpose issue,
setting goals can be a difficult matter. It’s like putting the cart before

               the horse.

I remember a client that an associate of mine had early in my law days.
The guy wanted help setting some goals – and he’d just found out he

had 30 to 90 days to live! He actually died 40 days later. But the goals
he wanted to set were nonsense due to his condition.

Finding meaning and purpose is more intuitive.

Intuitive means what we feel to be true in our hearts, even if we can’t

prove it, defend it, or proclaim it. Some call it ‘mystical.’ It is not
conscious reasoning or intellect, but more instinctive – intuitive.

We’re told that God ‘plants eternity in our hearts.’ He makes us at least

question it and think about it, even if we don’t believe in it – as many
do not. He wants us to discover it ‘intuitively.’

Now granted, we usually don’t set goals ‘intuitively,’ but we do usually

find meaning and purpose in this way. When we try to set goals having
no idea about meaning and purpose in life, it can be defeating. As I said,
