It really doesn’t take a PhD in psychology
from Harvard to understand this.
As this relates to GOALS, when we fill our minds and hearts with good
things, then good things grow from us – good life meanings, purposes
and goals. If we listen to bad stuff, if doesn’t work the same way.
This is why I like to go to sleep listening to, or meditating on things
about the gospel of God. The gospel is ‘GOOD news of GOOD things.’
It’s much better to go to sleep thinking about these things than it is the
late-night news. Our job is to put a guard up over our minds. We must
first become confident in what we think and believe, but we can’t be
unwilling to change what we think and believe if we are presented with
a noteworthy option to consider. Then, if we believe in them, we must
live our convictions. We can’t be wishy-washy in what we believe.
Things we think about affect our ability to set worthwhile GOALS!
The Seed, the Root, and the Fruit
I tried my hand at counseling a few years back. I did not care for it
much. Most people just wanted ‘free counseling,’ especially if they’d
been referred from a church — and I got a lot of church referrals. I had
a lot of churches and pastors as clients.
Others just seek another opinion in that they did not like what they’d
been told the first time around. They usually wanted free legal service
too. Often someone would call me and the first thing they’d say was,
“I hear you are a Christian lawyer.” What this usually meant is they
wanted free legal service, or at least a special rate because they were
Christian. My response soon became, “No, I’m not. I’m a lawyer who
happens to also be a Christian.”
