Campus Ministry NEWS Faculty Embark on Franciscan Pilgrimage to Assisi, Italy
Two members of the Padua community, Principal David Stec ’86 and Assistant Campus Minister/Theology teacher Tim Evans, were blessed to go on a pilgrimage to Assisi.
"The pilgrimage chooses you more than you choose the pilgrimage." That phrase was shared with me by a colleague
who was a previous pilgrim, shortly after being informed that
I was chosen to participate in the 2019 summer pilgrimage
to Assisi with Principal David Stec ’86, this past summer. What
a magnificent and memory-packed experience! Walking the
same roads and alleyways that St. Francis and St. Clare traveled upon; celebrating the Eucharist in the Basilica of St. Francis, the side chapel at San Damiano, and the Basilica of St. Clare; along with praying in caves of La Verna and the hillside forest of the Carceri, were among the most spiritually-fulfilling and grace- filled moments that I have ever experienced in my life. Sharing this pilgrimage with Dave and his wife, Beth, along with fifteen other pilgrims provided endless opportunities for meaningful conversations and reflection from dawn to well past dusk, and
a deepening of our understanding and love for Jesus as we gained a better understanding of the lives and spirituality of St. Francis and St. Clare. This "transformative" experience, through the power found through invitation and relationships, led to the development of this school year's theme: Transformation. As pilgrims on a journey through Assisi, like the dozens of colleagues who have traveled before me, we aspire to continue to "live"
the Assisi pilgrimage, each and every day, in our vocations as teachers, administrators, and staff members at Padua Franciscan High School.” – Tim Evans
