NEWSFaculty & StaffPadua Teacher of the Year 2017 AnnouncedEach year the St. Bonaventure Chapter of National Honor Society presents the St. Anthony Award for Teaching Excellence. Te St. Anthony Award is given annually to the Padua teacher who, in the eyes of the departing senior National Honor Society class, has best fostered intellectual rigor and academic excellence, while also modeling the values of character, service, and leadership to students. Te teacher shall have made a lasting impact on the growth of Padua students not only as scholars, but as human beings. Te winner of the St. Anthony Award for Teaching Excellence for 2017 is English teacher Mrs. Meghan Schepis.Celebrating 40 Years of Priestly Ordination Padua President Fr. Allan DaCorte, ofm celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination in June 2017 at St. John Neumann in Strongsville. Padua Teacher’s Work PublishedEnglish teacher Eric Larson’s short story “Te Last Time” was published in the Summer 2017 issue of Te Avalon Literary Review. Tony Shuman Honored by Cleveland Browns Teacher Tony Shuman ’91 was honored during a Cleveland Browns preseason game for his volunteer work with the Cleveland Browns Adapted Football League. Along with Padua coaches and football players, Mr. Shuman has volunteered for the program since 2011. Te Adapted Football League provides children with disabilities the opportunity to participate in an organized, competitive, and developmental sport. Mr. Shuman was honored as the coin toss captain when the Browns played the New York Giants in August. Volunteering was a huge part of Mr. Shuman’s upbringing and is still a priority today. “We have all been helped in life, so the ability to go out and help someone else, that’s the true gif,” said Shuman.Giulivo Family Bikes MichiganTe Giulivo family spent a week of their summer bicycling through Michi-gan. Te trip included more than 250 miles of cycling, from Manistee to Mackinaw City (including Sleeping Bear Dunes, Tra-verse City and Mackinac Island). Bikers included Social Studies teacher Tim Giulivo, his sons Kevin ’16 and William ’20, nephew Matt Logan ’11, and several others. Social Studies and Teology teacher (and wife) Joan Giulivo, and Tim’s parents (who volunteer several times a year at Padua) provided support, making it a real family afair.28
