The Storm in Ireland
I woke up early one morning with the wind howling and the waves crashing. My mother had opened the window because it is very rare for there to be waves in the bay. I went over to shut it because it was raining, but my mom said to leave it open. I love these kinds of storms with waves and the patter of rain on the roof and lane. We sat together listening to the storm and the crashing of the waves. The waves made me sad because I missed home. We were all the way across the ocean from home. Soon we were joined by my little sister and dad, and we watched as the storm continued.
After breakfast the storm had finally stopped. We decided to go to the bay and look for shells. When we got to the bay there were thousands of shells! We collected some big clam shells, small twisty ones, and even a piece of coral! Our cousins came and joined, and soon, we were all laughing and collecting shells. Then suddenly we heard a cry! It was my little sister who trilled, āIām stuck in the muck!ā My cousin had to pull her out, but her boots did not come out! It took my dad and my cousin to pull her boots out. My mom took a picture of that funny moment.
The big clam shells were a light brown and had lots of lines on them. They also were bumpy on the outside and smooth on the inside. The twisty shells were also light brown and really pretty. My mom said she had never seen so many shells on the shore before; the storm must have washed them up. I had never seen so many shells in my life either. When we could not carry any more shells we all headed back to the house, cleaned off our shells and went back to get more. We found a piece of coral. It was a light tan and bumpy. We immediately ran up and put it in the house so it would not break.
Then my cousin said oh no! I asked what's wrong? She said she could feel a bloody nose coming on. I rushed her to my mom who is an expert on bloody noses because I get them a lot. My mom took her to our house and I came to check on my cousin who was cleaning up. We went back to the bay and no sooner had we got there than I turned around and ran right back because I also had a bloody nose now. I was sitting on the tub waiting for it to stop. My cousin came in and joked that we were the bloody nose twins. I smiled since I could not really laugh. It ended shortly after that and me and my cousin walked back to the bay to collect more shells. A couple days later we packed up the suitcase and put our shells in a shoebox. Sadly, we could not take all the shells and my sister who was still young did not understand why. My mom explained it was because we were going on an airplane from Ireland to New York, then a drive from New York to Ohio. Two days worth of travel. I sure was glad to be back in my own bed.
