               DO YOU KNOW?

Motorized vehicle license plates in Indonesia use a combination of 4 numbers
combined with one, two, or three letters on the back. The one or two in front only serve as a

clue to the area where the car uses its number plate. For example, the letter AB denotes the
DI Yogyakarta area, B for the DKI Jakarta area and its surroundings, and so on.

Do you know, what is the maximum number of

motorized vehicles that can use the number plate in an
area, for example DI Yogyakarta, if:
                                                                                Figure 1. Vehicle Plate
               1. all combinations, including for example AB 0000 A, may be used?
               2. all combinations containing 0000 should not be used?

               3. all available combinations 0000 or the letters on the back of the CD should not be used,
CD (Corp Diplomatic) is specifically used for vehicles of foreign diplomats?

After studying this chapter, of course, you can easily answer all the questions above.

A PRINCIPLES OF MULTIPLICATION AND ADDITION

                  1. The number of occurrences of an event/experiment
                     Suppose we toss a coin.

                     (i) The possible result is Image (G) or Number (A) and they do not coincide.

(ii) If S represents 'possible outcome', then
(iii) All possible outcomes of an event is called the sample space.

(iv) Each cluster of a sample space is called a sample point.

So, the number of points in S is 2, and we write .

                     If we roll a six-sided die, then all possible outcomes are = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5 , 6} and
                             .
