                  2. Multiplication Rule

                     Illustration 1:

                     Experiment:  Draw  a  six-sided  die  and  a  coin  together.  The  conclusion  of  the  above
                     experiment is as follows.

                       If P = {elements of the dice} = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} and     = 6.

                         Q = {the elements of a coin} = {G, A} and      = 2.
                       So                       ,  meaning  that  there  are  12  ordered  pairs  containing

                         elements P and Q.

                     So, if a set P contains r elements and a set Q contains s elements, then         it is a set
                     containing rs elements, where rs is the number of consecutive pairs (a, b) with

                     and      .
