12 For example, God announced through Ezekiel that He would “take you from the nations and
gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land” (Ezek. 36:24). God
illustrated this promised regathering using the vision of the valley of dry bones (37:1–14).
Amos described it as a time when God would raise up “the booth of David that is fallen” (Amos
9:11). And in the New Testament, Paul announced that God had not rejected His people and
that a time was coming “when all Israel will be saved”; this will take place when the “Deliverer
will come from Zion” (Rom. 11:26).
13 In John 11, Martha understood Daniel 12 in this way when she said about her brother
Lazarus, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day” (v. 24).

20 Miller suggests using the NIV translation “multitudes” as a way to solve the problem, but this
leaves the main theological question unanswered (Stephen Miller, Daniel, The New American
Commentary [Nashville: Broadman & Holman, 2001], 318–19).
