Jackson-Pratt Drain and Hemovac Drains
Jackson-Pratt / JP Drain / Bulb Drain
This is a drainage device that uses constant suction to remove excess fluid from the body.
One end of the tube is placed in the body during surgery. The tube comes out of the body
through a small cut in the skin; the bulb is connected to this end. The tube is sutured in place.
The JP drain is used as a negative pressure vacuum that helps to collect the fluid. The bulb is
squeezed flat creating a negative pressure vacuum that expands as it fills with fluid.
The Jackson-Pratt drain has a plastic
drainage tube that connects to a flexible
plastic bulb. The drain removes fluids by
creating suction to the tube that sticks
out of the body. The bulb expands as it
fills with fluid.
