演講者介紹

                      Professor Shih-An Chen,

              Honorary Superintendent of

     Taichung Veterans General Hospital

           臺中榮民總醫院 名譽院長陳適安教授

Professor Shih-An Chen is a pioneer in the field of catheter ablation for cardiac
      arrhythmias.
In 2000, he became the first in the world to propose a comprehensive theory of “non-
pulmonary vein–originated atrial fibrillation.” He also pioneered the clinical use of
spectral analysis of electrophysiological signals to assist in atrial fibrillation ablation
surgery, significantly improving surgical success rates. In 2006, the Heart Rhythm
Society in the United States invited him to write on the differential diagnosis and
treatment of non–pulmonary vein atrial fibrillation. This approach, widely known in
the global medical community as the “Taipei Method,” has benefited numerous
      patients suffering from arrhythmias.
Professor Chen has received numerous awards and undertaken many national

initiatives in recognition of his academic achievements. These include serving as the
Principal Investigator of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s project to promote
the Taiwan Smart Healthcare Alliance to accelerate clinical trials of smart medical
devices, as well as leading international smart healthcare collaborations (with India
and the Philippines). He also serves as the Convener of the Second AI Center under
the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Through these roles, he has played a pivotal role
in advancing smart healthcare in Taiwan.
Under his leadership, Taichung Veterans General Hospital was named one of the Top
100 Smart Hospitals in the World by Newsweek—the only hospital in Taiwan to

receive this honor. Due to his outstanding clinical innovations and academic
contributions, Professor Chen has been recognized with prestigious accolades,
including the Simon Dack Award for Outstanding Scholarship from the American
College of Cardiology in 2010 (as the only Asian recipient), the Distinguished
Cardiologist Award from the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology in 2013, honorary
international fellowship of the Japanese Circulation Society in 2024, and election as a
Fellow of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI).
