On visiting Kentucky in 1870’s on his tour of the Sothern States, Daedalus was
caught in a flash flood and swept off his wagon. Whilst clinging to a barrel of
finest Courvoisier Cognac he was rescued by the pet caiman of local land owner
& master distiller Augustus Bulleit.
To show his appreciation of Augustus’s hospitality and the bravery of his pet
caiman fishing him out of the flood, he developed a variation of the original
cognac and peach brandy Julep (famous throughout the south) using the host’s
finest liquor, fruit and herbs as well as some of his own salvaged stash of fine
Cognac. The Doctor consequently received a hatchling of the Caiman, caring for it
all his days, naming the vicious little bugger ‘Cecil’ as it reminded him of his
father.
