I am in Southsea for a few days visiting my favourite drapers for the supply of tropical
          garments for my upcoming voyage.
Whilst waiting for my appointment, I meet a young apprentice who offers to give us

board for the few nights of our stay.
Later, while taking a nocturnal stroll through local orchards with my host, he tells me
          fantastical tales of futures imagined.
He points to the stars wistfully telling me of beings living in the cold expanse of space
looking down on us with curiosity and perhaps envy.
Laughing out loud at the bizarre but wonderful tales, I suggest to the chap that he should
put down his draper’s sheers and put pen to parchment.
I have offered to sponsor the young lad to attend the Normal School of Science so that
he could research his tales and hone his writing skills on the condition that he will give
me a small share of any royalties from his future writings.
I will endeavour to keep abreast of the young Herbert George Wells and hope that his
tales of space and time are a success.
