EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

         •   Plan, organize, direct and review all functions and activities of the Department of Emergency Management and the
            Emergency Operations Center (EOC), including developing, implementing and updating emergency preparedness
            plans, operations and programs; the study and analysis of the vulnerability to disaster and response capabilities;
            develop and implement comprehensive, long-term disaster mitigation plans and programs; coordinate with other
            departments, agencies and regional efforts

         •   Consult and cooperate with County and other department executives on all aspects of emergency preparedness
            activities; discuss problems, develop alternative strategies for dealing with those problems; assist in implementation
            of solutions, as necessary

         •   Serve as chief staff advisor during disaster response

         •   Appoint and evaluate the performance of department employees; oversees management development and staff
            training programs within the Department

         •   Oversees the release of emergency preparedness education and information to county residents, employees and
            community stakeholders; ensures the dissemination of information to affected parties in a timely manner during
            emergencies

         •   Assure collaboration and coordination of work intra-departmentally and inter-departmentally

         •   Monitor state and federal policy and budget developments related to department matters, evaluate their impact on
            County goals and operations, and implement programs, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with appli-
            cable funding programs and regulations

         •   Direct the preparation, monitoring and administration of the annual budget for the department including overall fis-
            cal management of expenditures and cost control systems, review and evaluate current programs, and anticipates
            future needs; direct the preparation of reports and agendas related to the work of the Department of Emergency
            Management

         •   Reviews, analyzes, approves and coordinates legislative proposals, bills, budget requests, and claims for reimburse-
            ment related to emergency preparedness
