Omniscience in the Scriptures
David declared that God understands from any distance. God knows every person’s motives, actions,
and words (Psalm 139:1-6; cf. Luke 9:46-48; John 1:46-51. The Bible declares that God knows everything
that can be known. “Let there be light, and there was light. . . Let there be an expanse in the midst of the
waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters,” and it came to be (Gen. 1:3, 6-7; cf. Matt. 8:14-
               17; Mark 4:35-41).

               Omnipotence (all-Powerful)
Paul P. Enns argues that omnipotence is that “quality of deity that means God is all
powerful and can do anything that is consistent with His nature.” Chafer maintains
                                                                          86
that omnipotence is “The infinite power of God, which is employed in the realization
                                  87
               of all that God wills.”

The Humanity of Jesus Christ as Revealed from the Scriptures

F.L. Cross and E. A. Livingstone suggest that the incarnation confirms that God’s Son took his humanity
                                                                                                     88
from the human mother and that “the historical Christ is at once both fully God and fully man.”

Heresy Concerning the Humanity of Jesus Christ

               Docetism
This teaching states that Jesus “was a spirit being, only appearing as a human being.” Docetists could
                                                                                           89
have been influenced by Plato or Aristotle. For Plato, the “Spirit or mind or thought is the highest
                                                      90
reality,” matter is “morally bad.” For Aristotle, “God cannot change, suffer, or even be affected by
anything that happens in the world.” Both maintained that “visible, physical, material world is somehow
                              91
               inherently evil.”

Confirmation of Jesus’ Humanity in the Old Testament.

                                Isaiah 7:14-17
Isaiah prophesied that the virgin was going to conceive and give birth to a son. New
Testament Gospels confirm that the virgin woman was Mary (Matt. 1:18-19). The
name of the child to be born would be Jesus, because He would save His people from
their sins (Matt. 1:21). His birth from a human being proves His humanity.

Confirmation of Jesus’ Humanity in the NT.

Growth in Wisdom, Stature, and Favor
In Luke 2:52, we read that Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man. The
growth of Jesus reflects His humanity as God He did not need changes in His quality and quantity. Both
His deity and humanity agreed concerning His growth in those three aspects.
                                                                                    92

               Life Experiences
While in Bethlehem, Herod sent the Magi to find Jesus Christ in Bethlehem (Matt. 2:3-8). His intention
was to kill. An angel instructed Mary and Joseph to go to Egypt (Matt 2:13-18; cf. Jer. 31:15). The
warning suggests that Jesus Christ was fully human, capable of being killed or harmed. There are also
