Study Section 9: Discipleship – To Make Him Known

“We must be ready to allow ourselves to be interrupted by God.”
                                                   ― Dietrich Bonhoeffer

I remember when I first met my girlfriend, who became my wife. She was just wonderful.
Everywhere I went I introduced her to my friends. I wanted them to know her also. She was
smart, kind, really sweet, beautiful, and was everything I was looking for in a wife. She had a
heart for the Lord and a desire to serve Him faithfully.

I was not interested in hiding her from my friends or family. I proclaimed my affections to everyone
who would listen. And I talked about her incessantly.

When a person comes to “know” Jesus Christ, the same is true. He/she wants the whole world to know
Him and His amazing love. But it seems, over the years, that that strong desire to make Him known
fades. In fact, among Millennials in the US, 47% (almost half) believe that it is wrong to share one’s
personal beliefs with someone of a different faith in hopes that they will one day share the same faith.
                                                                                                           27
Probably the greatest commandment that Christ left us as He departed to Heaven was Matthew 28: 18-
               20:

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been
given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inthe

name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of
               the age.”

This commandment to believers is to make Christ KNOWN among the nations. It involves sharing who
He is and what He has done for every person on the planet. It is God’s marching order. Let’s see how
               we can do that…
